Belgrade seat appeal

BELGRADE SEAT APPEAL

Many thanks to all contributors for making this possible.

The art work is now in place, on the wall by the entrance to the restaurant on the first floor.

Two representatives went to an 'unveiling' event and were interviewed by a member of staff for their press release, so we were able to put over our long association with the Belgrade Theatre.

We had our photo taken beside the Art Work, which is a large sheet of textured, decorated glass, with all the contributor names down one side.

Our seat with a plaque is Q 22 in the stalls. the plaque will be there for at least 10 years but the art work is, of course, permanent.

In 2008, to celebrate 50 years the Belgrade is issuing 50 ‘name a seat’ options with an additional benefit of the name being inscribed on a piece of public art to be permanently on display on the upper floor of the building.

In view of our early connections with the Belgrade we think it would be an excellent way of The Umbrella Club having its name remembered in perpetuity.

The idea was given much support at the recent AGM and the Treasurer is prepared to release some funds towards the venture if necessary.

For the Belgrade this is a fund-raising effort and the cost is £250 per name. for this we get:

a ) ‘The Umbrella Club’ on a plaque on one auditorium seat,

b ) ’The Umbrella Club’ etched on a piece of public art,

c ) ’The Umbrella Club’ printed in a list of names in programmes for home produced shows ( which include quality literary works).

NB it does not entitle us to any free tickets!

We are hoping that members past and present will be willing to make a contribution of at least £5 each.

I realise that members will want some recognition of their contribution. I am thinking in terms of an A5 certificate and a list on the website (not mentioning the amounts, obviously).
Any further suggestions gratefully received; this whole matter has only been on the table for a couple of weeks.
